Cheptegei is the current world record holder for the 5000 metres and the 10,000 metres, and holds the world best time over the 15 kilometres distance. Cheptegei set the world best time for the 5 kilometres in 2020, becoming the first person ever to run that distance under 13 minutes (12:51.) Cheptegei is the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000 m and the reigning three-time World champion in the 10,000 m.
