Tetris (rusu: Те́трис) ye un videoxuegu de puzzle orixinalmente diseñáu y programáu por Alekséi Pázhitnov na Xunión Soviética. Foi llanzáu'l 6 de xunu de 1984,^[1] mientres trabayaba pal Centru de Computación Dorodnitsyn de l'Academia de Ciencies de la Xunión Soviética en Moscú, RSFS de Rusia.^[2] El so nome deriva del prefixu numbéricu griegu tetra- (toles pieces del xuegu, conocíes como Tetrominós que contienen cuatro segmentos) y del tenis, el deporte favorito de Pázhitnov.^[3]^[4]

Nel Tetris xugar colos tetrominós, el casu especial de cuatro elementos de poliominós. Los poliominós utilizáronse nos ruempecabeces populares a lo menos dende 1907, y el nome foi dau pol matemáticu Solomon W. Golomb en 1953. Sicasí, inclusive la enumeración de los pentominós data de l'antigüedá.

El xuegu (o una de los sos munches variantes) ta disponible pa casi cada consola de videoxuegos y sistemes operativos de PC, según en dispositivos tales como les calculadores gráfiques, teléfonos móviles, reproductores de multimedia portátiles, PDAs, reproductores de música en rede ya inclusive como güevu de pascua en productos non mediáticos como los osciloscopios.^[5] Tamién inspiró servicios de mesa^[6] y foi xugáu nes bandes de dellos edificios,^[7]^[8] calteniendo'l récor de ser el xuegu dafechu funcional más grande del mundu gracies al esfuerciu d'estudiantes holandeses en 1995 qu'allumaron 15 pisos del Departamentu d'Inxeniería Llétrica na Universidá Técnica de Delft.^[9]^[10]^[11]

Ente que les versiones de Tetris vender pa una amplia gama de plataformes d'ordenadores domésticos de los años 1980, foi la bien esitosa versión portátil pa la Game Boy llanzada en 1989 qu'estableció al xuegu como unu de los más populares de tolos tiempos. La edición númberu 100 del Electronic Gaming Monthly tuvo al Tetris nel primer llugar como'l "meyor xuegu de tolos tiempos". En 2007, Tetris ocupó'l segundu llugar nos "100 meyores videoxuegos de tolos tiempos" para IGN.^[12] Vendió más de 170 millones de copies pal añu 2016.^[13] En xineru de 2010, anuncióse que'l Tetris vendió más de 100 millones d'unidaes pa teléfonos móviles (móviles) namái dende l'añu 2005.^[14]
