On November 20, 2023, a Boeing P-8A Poseidon operated by the United States Navy overran the runway and ditched into the Kāneʻohe Bay. All nine crew members evacuated the aircraft and swam to shore, uninjured. The aircraft damage is substantial and its airworthiness is still being evaluated to determine if it can be restored to operational condition.[1][2][3][4]
