On June 15, 2024, nine people, including two children, were shot at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan. An 8-year-old boy was critically wounded from a gunshot to the head. The shooter fired around 28 times before fleeing the scene in his vehicle. He was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a home half a mile from the scene.[1][2] The perpetrator was identified as Michael William Nash, an unemployed 42-year-old resident of Shelby Township who, according to both police and relatives, did not have a criminal record but had dealt with mental health challenges.[3][4][5]
Police describe the shooting as random, and stated that Nash had no connection to any of his victims.
