Israel participated in, hosted, and won the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest, which was held on 31 March 1979 at the International Convention Center's Ussishkin Auditorium in Jerusalem. Their entry, "Hallelujah," was composed by Kobi Oshrat (who also conducted the orchestra), written by Shimrit Orr, and performed by Milk and Honey (made up of Gali Atari, Shmulik Bilu, Reuven Gvritz, and Yehuda Tamir).
