Harold Bernard "Jack" Albertson[1] (June 16, 1907 – November 25, 1981) was an American actor, dancer, and singer.[2] He began his career in vaudeville and as the demand for the genre declined, he transitioned into theater and later, film and television.[3] Albertson was an accomplished actor, one of only 26 of professionals to date who have won a Tony, an Academy Award, and an Emmy.

Albertson is perhaps best known for his performances as John Cleary, in both the stage play The Subject Was Roses (1964) and the film adaptation by Ulu Grosbard (1968), Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), and Ed Brown in Chico and the Man (1974 – 1978).

Albertson earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1977. His star is located at 6253 Hollywood Boulevard.[4]
