The Philadelphia Mint is a branch of the United States Mint in Philadelphia. It was built in 1792 following the Coinage Act of 1792, in order to establish a national identity and the needs of commerce in the United States, and is the first and oldest national mint facility.

The largest/heaviest of any coin or medal ever minted by the United States mint came from the Philadelphia mint location. It is the 1969-P Matte Silver San Diego 200th Anniversary commemorative bicentennial medal. Weighing 252 grams (over 8 Troy ounces of 90% silver) and measuring 76mm.
