Simon Girty (November 14, 1741 – February 18, 1818) was a Pennsylvania-born pioneer. As a child he and his brothers James and George were captured and adopted by Native Americans. During the American Revolutionary War, after attempting to join the Pennsylvania Continental Army he became a Loyalist who organized and led Native American tribes against the American colonists. During the Northwest Indian War, he sided with and led indigenous warriors against American troops.[1][2] [3]
Girty was also known by his Seneca Nation name, Katepacomen, [a] and the nickname "Renegade Girty."
