Souvenir plot

Souvenir plots of land were first defined in section 4(1)(b) of the Land Registration (Scotland) Act 1979 as

"a piece of land which, being of inconsiderable size or no practical utility, is unlikely to be wanted in isolation except for the sake of mere ownership or for sentimental reasons or commemorative purposes.[1]"

These plots of land are commonly sold as a gift, along with the invitation for the customer to style oneself as a Laird, Lord or Lady.

The practice has attracted some controversy, but it is not known to have created any problems.[2]
