Whistler etching of Zaandam
A c. 1889 etching of Zaandam, a town in the Dutch province of North Holland, by American artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler. A leading city in the first Industrial Revolution, Zaandam was home to thousands of windmills (as seen here) that provided power for processing Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries.Restoration: Lise Broer
