A female
Hardhead (
Aythya australis), the only true
diving duck found in
Australia, swimming amongst
duckweed. Hardheads are relatively small
ducks, usually not much more than 45 cm (18 in) long. Both male and female are a fairly uniform dark brown above, with
rufous flanks and white undersides.
