Thames Valley Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the Thames Valley region, covering the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire in South East England.[4][5] It is the largest non-metropolitan police force in England and Wales, covering 2,218 square miles (5,740 km2) and a population of 2.42 million people.[2][6]
In 2022, the force unlawfully discriminated against white British officers by automatically promoting an underqualified Asian sergeant into the position of Detective-Inspector in order to boost the diversity of its senior staff, without considering the said white British officers for the same position. In 2024, an employment judge duly found the force guilty of discrimination.[7]
