The role of women in Egypt has changed over time, from ancient to the modern era. Early archaeological records show that Egyptian women were considered equal to men regardless of marital status.

The rights of women in Egypt expanded in the 20th century. However, legal inequality persists, with current laws differentiating significantly between women and men in the spheres of marriage and divorce.[5]
