Futbola taldekako kirol bat da, hamaikana jokalariko bi talderen artean baloi esferiko batekin jokatze dena. 250 milioi jokalarik praktikatzen dute munduko 200 herrialde baino gehiagotan, eta beraz munduko kirolik hedatuena da;^[1][2][3] eta diru gehien mugitzen duen kirola ere, saskibaloiarekin, 1 Formularekin eta golfarekin batera. Jokalariek ezin dute baloia eskuekin edo besoekin ukitu jokoan ari diren bitartean, atezaina area penalean dagoenean izan ezik.
