The Man Who Sold the World er det tredje studioalbumet til den britiske artisten David Bowie. Det kom først ut i USA på Mercury Records i november 1970 og Storbritannia i april 1971. Dette var det første Bowie-albumet som inneheldt kjernen i det som kom til å bli bandet «Spiders from Mars», som akkompagnerte Bowie på på den vidkjende plata The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars i 1972. Sjølv om enkelte meiner at karrieren til Bowie starta for fullt med plata David Bowie i 1969,[1] hevda andre at det var med The Man Who Sold the World det verkeleg starta for Bowie.[2] Det var eit stort steg bort frå den hovudsakleg akustiske musikken frå det andre albumet til Bowie,[3] og The Man Who Sold the World er av enkelte rekna som eit hardrock- og heavy metal-album.[4] Det har blitt hevda at dette albumet er påverka av glamrockovergangen til Marc Bolan tidlegare det året.[5] Det har òg vorte hevda at albumet markerte starten på glamrock.[6]
