Atherosclerosis is a type of arteriosclerosis[1] in which the wall of the artery has lesions. These lesions may lead to narrowing due to the buildup of atheromatous plaque.[2] There are usually no symptoms.[3]
When severe, it can cause coronary artery disease, stroke, peripheral artery disease, or kidney failure.
