The Eastern Shore of Maryland is on the east side of Chesapeake Bay. It consists of nine counties. In 2020 its population was about 450 thousand.[1] This means about 7 percent of Marylanders live in this region. The term "Eastern Shore" distinguishes a territorial part of the State of Maryland from the Western Shore of Maryland, land west of the Chesapeake Bay.
The region has many beaches. Some of the best known and most often visited beaches are at Ocean City, Maryland.[2] Ocean City is also known for its boardwalks and its tourist attractions.[2] With 33,000 people in 2020, Salisbury is the largest city.[3]
