Montgomery County is a county in the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, its population was 228,954, making it the fifth-most populous county in Alabama.[1] Its county seat is Montgomery, the state capital.[2]
Montgomery County was founded on December 6, 1816. It is named in honor of Lemuel P. Montgomery, a U.S. Army military officer killed at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in the War of 1812.[3]
