Phoenicia

Phoenicia was a civilization to the north of Canaan.^[1] that existed from 1200 to 900 BC. People from Phoenicia had their own language, Phoenician, which is the origin of most of the world's alphabets.^[2]

Phoenicians set up colonies in the Mediterranean region and beyond.^[3] Carthage was one of them.^[3] Phoenician traders went as far as the British Isles to buy tin.^[3] At their peak, the Phoenicians were a major power in the Mediterranean.^[3]
