Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (born February 16, 1990), known by the stage name the Weeknd, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer. The Weeknd was born in Scarborough, Ontario. He is a Canadian citizen of Ethiopian descent. He performs a mixture of R&B, rock and hip hop. On March 6, 2011, the rapper Drake spoke about the Weeknd as a new artist on Twitter, He did this to increase the curiosity of the public.^[2][3]
