William David Friedkin (August 29, 1935 – August 7, 2023)[1] was an American movie director, producer and screenwriter. He was best known for directing The French Connection in 1971 and The Exorcist in 1973. He won the Academy Award for Best Director.[2]

Some of his other movie include Sorcerer, The Brink's Job, Cruising, Deal of the Century, To Live and Die in L.A., Jade, Rules of Engagement, The Hunted, Bug, and Killer Joe.

Friedkin died on August 7, 2023 at his home in Los Angeles, California from heart failure and pneumonia at the age of 87.[3][4]
